FIFA to train Physical Education teachers in SHSs on football – GES

Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is set to train 50 Physical Education teachers and coach educators selected from all 16 regions of the country, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Eric Nkansah has said.
In a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek, Dr Eric Nkansah said the FIFA programme is designed to contribute to education. The GES Director-General also said is to develop and empower school children through football.
This comes after he on Wednesday 9th August 2023, received a delegation from the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) led by Madam Fatimata Sow Ep Sidibe, the Director, of Football for Schools.
I was excited to learn that in addition to promoting targeted life skills and competencies through football for our learners, FIFA will train 50 of our Physical Education teachers and coach educators selected from all 16 regions of our country.
The delegation briefed me on Football for Schools, a FIFA programme designed to contribute to the education, development and empowerment of children through football,” the Director-General of GES said in the post.
Reacting to the Football for Schools programme, he said it “is a great addition to what we are already doing in our schools and I am confident that the programme will go a long way to identify and nurture young talents from the school system.”
In a related development, with the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Football Association in collaboration with FIFA has scheduled August 10, 2023, to August 12, 2023, to launch the FIFA Football for Schools project in some schools across the country.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the Football Association said “As part of the project, there will be the training of selected Physical Education (PE) Teachers from all the regions in Ghana by FIFA Specialists as trainee trainers.
“The trained teachers will then train other PE Teachers in their respective regions. This project forms part of the GFA’s quest to develop all aspects of the game and to ensure that members are duly supported by FIFA to boost capacity.
