GES gives new date to sensitize BECE candidates on SHSs selection

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced September 11, 2023, to educate and sensitize BECE candidates on guidelines for choosing their preferred Senior High and Technical Schools for placement in the next academic year.
The new 2023 Senior High Schools (SHSs) selection sensitization date comes after the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) earlier communicated to commence the selection of schools exercise from August 18, 2023.
The school selection sensitization exercise to start from September 11 to 22, 2023, GES says will involve officers from GES Headquarters, CSSPS and Free SHS Secretariat who will be visiting various regions to conduct the training exercise.
“Parents and guardians are particularly advised to take a keen interest in the selection of schools processes to ensure a smooth placement this year,” the Ghana Education Service said in a statement copied to AcademicWeek.com.

The following officers according to the Ghana Education Service (GES) are to be part of the participants to be trained for the sensitisation exercise:
Regional Team
- Regional Director
- Chief Inspector of Schools
- Free SHS Coordinator
- Examination Officer
- Public Relation Officer
District Team
- Deputy Director
- Supervision and Monitoring Examination Officer
- SISOS
- Public Relations Officer
A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 males and 300,391 females from 18,993 Junior High Schools (JHSs0 sat for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which ended on Friday, August 11, 2023.
With regard to the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.
