GES interdicts WASS headmistress, ‘Shine Agatha’ over extortion

The headmistress of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS), Dr Shine Agatha Ofori has been interdicted for unauthorised collection of money from students, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said.
In a statement sighted by AcademicWeek, GES said Mrs Shine has been asked to hand over the school’s administration to the Regional Director of Education pending the final determination of the case by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
“She is to hand over the administration of the school to the Regional Director of Education pending the final determination of the case by the Regional Disciplinary Committee,” the Ghana Education Service said in the statement.
Founded in 1946 by Rev. J. C. Tettey and Emmanuel Addo, the West Africa Senior High School (WASS) is a second-cycle institution located at Adenta in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
The school is a government-assisted, mixed-day and non-denominational institution providing a three-year Senior High School education. It has a total student population of more than 1639 of which 49% are girls and 51% are boys.
In another story, the Ghana Education Service early this year also interdicted, Mr Kenneth Agbomadze, the headmaster of Fijai Senior High School in the Western Region of Ghana over the alleged collection of illegal fees in the school.
GES in a statement shared with AcademicWeek said his interdiction pends further investigation into the extortion of fees. “He is to hand over administration of the school to the Western Regional Director of Education,” it said.
The investigative committee set up to probe the alleged collection of illegal fees by the ‘interdicted’ headmaster of Fijai Senior High School was given two weeks to submit a report to the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES).
