GES postpones SHS 1 students reopening date from September 18

First-year Senior High School and Senior High Technical School (SHS/SHTS) students reopening date has been rescheduled to September 25, 2023, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said.
Earlier slated for September 18, 2023, the Education Service in a letter shared with AcademicWeek.com said Regional Directors of Education are to communicate the new reopening date to heads of second-cycle schools in their region.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform all Heads of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools that the reopening date for Form One students has been rescheduled to September 25, 2023
“Regional Directors of Education are requested to communicate this information to all Head of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools to inform parents and students to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly,” it said.
In another story, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has ended the conduct of the 2023 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) administered from August 7, 2023, to August 11, 2023
A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 males and 300,391 females from 18,993 Junior High Schools (JHSs0 sat for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which ended on Friday, August 11, 2023.
With regard to the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.
The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates was held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while 15 centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates.
