MoE drafting new curriculum for SHS students – Report

The Ministry of Education (MoE) is drafting new curriculum in Religious Studies for students in various public Senior High Schools across the country, a source related to the development told AcademicWeek on Tuesday.

The insider said the Ministry has invited Mr Francis Opoku, a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Theological Studies of Valley View University to assist in the drafting of the new Curriculum in Religious Studies for students.

“Mr Francis Opoku, a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Theological Studies of Valley View University has been invited by the Ministry of Education to assist in the drafting of the new Curriculum in Religious Studies,” it stated.

In other news, the spokesman for the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng says with the completion of all procurement processes by the Public Procurement Authority, new curriculum textbooks are expected to be released in 120 days.

“With the completion of all procurement processes by the PPA, publishers are expected to supply textbooks within 120days. The Minister for Education Dr Adutwum is still committed to providing our basic school textbooks,” he stated.

The Education Ministry’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) comment comes after a news report said the central government unfortunately will be unable to provide schools with the textbooks for the new curriculum until 2024.

But, the Ministry in charge of Education (MoE) commenting on the viral social media report in a statement dated May 20, 2022, has said the claim is untrue urging members of the general public to disregard any such false information.

It however admitted the textbooks for the new curriculum have been delayed but indicated that stakeholders associated with the new curriculum textbooks are working tirelessly to ensure they are provided in due course.

“We have been working with the appropriate institutions, including Public Procurement Authority, printers, and publishers to ensure delivery of books to various schools,” the press release signed by Kwasi Kwarteng stated.

The Ministry also indicated more than 150,000 teacher resource packs have been distributed to teachers across the length and breadth of the country to enhance teaching and learning activities to improve learning outcomes.

“A comprehensive Quality Assurance Review, coupled with the conclusion of all procurement processes by the Procurement Authority contracts have been signed and publishers have 120 days to complete their mandate,” it noted.
