MoE gives date to show BECE 2023 SHS selection guidelines video

The Ministry of Education (MoE) as part of efforts to make placement of 2023 BECE candidates into various Senior High and Technical Schools easy says Senior High School (SHS) selection guidelines video will be broadcasted on August 21, 2023.
In a statement shared with AcademicWeek, the Education Ministry said the guidelines video is purposely to provide clarity and guidance on the Senior High School (SHS) selection process for candidates who sat for the 2023 BECE.
“The video will be featured within schools and extensively broadcast on various television. The video and the selection form will also be accessible on the official website of the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat at www.freeshs.net
The Ministry encourages active participation and notes the importance of the following timelines for all stakeholders, including BECE graduates, parents/guardians, and the general,” the Education Ministry said in the press statement.
Scheduled to commence on August 21, 2023, the Ministry in Charge of Education indicated that the broadcast of the Senior High School (SHS) selection guidelines video on various television networks will end on August 25, 2023.
The Junior High Schools showing of the selection guidelines video, the Ministry said will start on August 21 to August 25, 2023. The specific date and time for the video in schools it said will be communicated to students by their heads of schools.
“The Senior High School School selection period has been scheduled from August 23 to September 4th, 2023. This is the period where you get the selection forms, complete and submit them to your JHS head teacher,” MoE noted.
A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 males and 300,391 females from 18,993 Junior High Schools (JHSs0 sat for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which ended on Friday, August 11, 2023.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) amid low entries in registration of BECE for Private Candidates this academic year conducted both the 2023 BECE for School and BECE for Private Candidates simultaneously.
The number of candidates that registered for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School according to the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) is 8.8% higher than the 2022 entry figure of 552,276.
With regard to the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.
The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates was held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while 15 centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates.
