MoE gives deadline to pay newly posted teachers salaries

The Ghana Education Service in collaboration with the Controller and Accountant’s General Department by September 2022 will duly pay the salaries of all newly posted teachers, the deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Education has said.
Speaking in an interview monitored by AcademicWeek, Yaw Opoku Mensah said the Education Service has put in place effective measures to fast-track the generation of the Staff IDs for newly posted teachers yet to receive theirs.
“We are hopeful that next month which is September about 16,534 new teachers virtually will receive their salary plus their arrears,” the deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) for the Ministry of charge of Education (MoE) assured.
He indicated that GES as of August 15, 2022, had generated 16,524 newly recruited teachers’ staff IDs. The about 16,524 generated IDs Yaw said represents 98% of the total number of staff IDs to be generated which is 16,850.
“So we have only 2% out there that is 316 teachers who are yet to be issued their staff IDs. They do have issues and the issue has got to do with their inability to submit the necessary documents for them to be issued the GES ID,” he noted.
For the Northern region, Opoku Mensah said 1,022 teachers were recruited by the Ghana Education Service. “Out of that number we are left with only 1% which is 10 who are yet to receive their staff IDs,” he noted in the interview.
“For the zonal biometric registration, Ashanti and Northern region will have theirs done at Kumasi GNAT hall from August 15 to 17 and Ahafo, Bono and Bono East will have theirs at Sunyani GNAT Hall on August 28 to September 2
Central and Greater Accra regions will have theirs at Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall headquarters from August 15 to 17. The Eastern region will have theirs done in Koforidua from August 18 to 23
The North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West regions will have theirs done at Tamale GNAT hall from September 3 to 8. Volta and Oti regions will have theirs completed at HO GNAT hall from August 15 to 17, 2022
The Western region that is Zone 7 will have theirs at Takoradi GNAT hall from August 25 to 29, 2022,” Yaw Opoku Mensah explained the biometric zonal timetable to the host of Metro Tv’s Bottomline show, Kwasi Afriyie.
Considering the effort of the management of the Ghana Education Service to ensure all new teachers duly receive their IDs, the Education Ministry spokesperson has urged all newly posted teachers to take the GES process serious.
