MoE releases BECE 2023 Senior High School selection form sample

The Ministry of Education (MoE) ahead of the selection of preferred second-cycle schools for computer placement by candidates who sat for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) has released a sample of the Senior High School selection form.

In a statement shared with AcademicWeek, the Education Ministry said Junior High School graduates who sat for the national examination will commence their Senior High Schools selection from August 23, 2023, to September 4, 2023.

“Parents and guardians are particularly advised to take a keen interest in the selection of schools processes to ensure a smooth placement this year,” the press statement signed by a spokeswoman for GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo stated.

In a related development, the Ministry of Education (MoE) says it has developed an informative video that elaborates the Senior High School selection guidelines. The video it said will be aired from August 21, 2023, to August 25, 2023.

A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 males and 300,391 females from 18,993 Junior High Schools (JHSs0 sat for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) which ended on Friday, August 11, 2023.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) amid low entries in registration of BECE for Private Candidates this academic year conducted both the 2023 BECE for School and BECE for Private Candidates simultaneously.

The number of candidates that registered for this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School according to the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) is 8.8% higher than the 2022 entry figure of 552,276.

With regard to the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.

The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates was held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while 15 centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates.
