MoE replies PRINCOF over College trainees feeding problem

The Ministry of Education following an appeal by the Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) for College trainees to feed themselves effective November 7, 2022, has said measures have been put in place to address the food crisis.
In a statement copied to AcademicWeek, the Principals said their decision follows the rapid hike in the price of food items, a situation it said is making it difficult for the management of various Colleges to feed the teacher trainees.
“Prices of all food items have shot up astronomically and food suppliers have refused to supply to government Colleges of Education because of the indebtedness of Colleges to these suppliers,” the Conference of Principals stated.
The National Principals added “a request for an upward review of the feeding grant paid to Principals has not been approved and it has become increasingly difficult for Principals to continue to provide three meals a day to students.
The management of Colleges of Education following the cost of food items has called on the Minister in charge of Education to accept their permission for College students to start feeding themselves in early November this year.
But, a spokesman for the Education Ministry, Kwasi Kwarteng reacting to the Principal’s request said his outfit is aware of the situation and is working with the Ministry of Finance to swiftly resolve the challenges before November 7, 2022.
“MoE is aware of the urgency of the situation and is working with the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to swiftly resolve all outstanding obligations/commitments to the Colleges of Education (CoE)
The public is further assured of our commitment to address disruptions within the food supply chain ahead of the November 7th ultimatum,” the Public Relations Officer stated in a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com.
