NTC cautions Offinso teachers over ‘illegal’ CPD workshop

The National Teaching Council following an advertisement for teachers of Offinso Municipal to attend a mandatory CPD workshop purported to be approved by NTC says teachers partake in the workshop at their discretion.
“NTC has come across a social media circulation calling teachers of Offinso Municipal to a mandatory NTC workshop scheduled for 9th August and 10th August 2022 and demanding participants to pay an amount of GHC 40,” it stated.
Describing the Offinso Municipal workshop as illegal, the management of the Teaching Council in a communique by AcademicWeek said it has not approved the conduct of any workshop for participants to be allotted 8 CPD points.
“NTC hereby inform teachers at Offinso Municipal that NTC has neither approved of the said workshop nor the said allotted 8 CPD points. Teachers must be cautious in the exercise of their discretion regarding the said workshop

In a related development, the National Teaching Council (NTC) has commenced a nationwide sensitization exercise on the temporary certificate to be issued to non-professional public and private school teachers across the country.
NTC in a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek said the registration and training sensitization exercise scheduled to take off on Thursday, July 14, 2022, in the Greater Accra region would lead to the issuance of the temporary certificates.
“The National Teaching Council (NTC) is embarking on sensitization for all non-professional teachers in the Greater Accra Region on registration and training that will lead to the issuance of the temporary certificates,” It stated.
After the registration and issuance of temporary certificates to such teachers in the pre-tertiary education system (both public and private), NTC says teachers without the temporary certification will have no legal authorization to teach.
“NTC has been mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020, Act 1023 to regulate the teaching profession. Since March 2021, It has been on a nationwide issuance of licences to professional qualified teachers,” NTC noted.
