Trinity Lutheran School disclaims involvement in BECE malpractice

The management of the Trinity Lutheran School after the West African Examinations Council named them among schools found to be engaged in examination malpractice in the 2023 BECE says its students did not cheat in the national examination.
Reacting to the non-profit-making organization’s (WAEC) claim, the Tema-based Trinity Lutheran School said “Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the Daily Graphic of Wednesday, August 9, 2023, page 16
The publication stated categorically in paragraph Three (3) that “One of the teachers, Flora Ashietey of the St. John Bosco Basic School, was found allegedly with a tablet containing questions and answers of the exam at the Trinity Lutheran School in Tema
We wish to bring to the attention of all that “Trinity Lutheran School” is an examination centre that houses students from six different schools to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE)
Management of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Schools, Ghana (ELCS) hereby states that Trinity Lutheran School is an Examination Centre for BECE, and was not involved in the exam malpractice as has been published by some media houses.”
A total of 602,457 prospective candidates participated in the 2023 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private administered from August 7, 2023, to August 11, 2023.
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) amid low entries in registration of BECE for Private Candidates this academic year will conduct both the 2023 BECE for School and BECE for Private Candidates at the same time.
For BECE School and Private candidates, 21 subjects, comprising 5 Core and 16 Electives were made available to them. In addition to the 5 Core subjects. The School candidates were given the option of choosing 4 Electives to make a maximum of 9 subjects.
To ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the 2023 BECE for School and Private, a total of 2,137 supervisors, 2,000 supervisors and 21,027 invigilators were tasked to oversee the administration of the national examination.
