WAEC official website back online after days of downtime

WAEC official website, https://waecgh.org is currently online after days of downtime as a result of the site’s domain name expiry, a staff of the West African Examinations Council told AcademicWeek in the early hours of Tuesday.
He said the management of the non-profit-making organization has renewed the domain name to avoid future occurrence of the technical issue adding “we are working tirelessly to make the WAEC official website better and fast.”
“Candidates preparing to sit for the 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination and Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) can download the timetables for the examination on the site,” the WAEC official stated.
In other news, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum says his outfit has collaborated with the Examinations Council to conduct a successful and smooth candidates’ international and national examination this academic year.
He said biometric access control devices will be introduced at the Security Printing Division to ensure that only authorised staff entered the premises in addition to strict bodily searching of persons entering and exiting.
As part of efforts to curb the malpractice, he said closed-circuit television (CCTV) will be used to monitor the activities relating to the production of question papers, and the use of tamper-proof envelopes to seal question papers.
“There will be seals on the bags to ensure that no one has access to the packets while in transit, and the use of a combination of locks for the security bags to prevent unnoticed access to the packets before the code was released to depot keepers,” he added.
Ahead of the conduct of the examinations, Dr Adutwum said a sensitization process will be undertaken for candidates and the public on examination malpractices and their effect on society as well as punitive actions against culprits.
The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament told Parliament that WAEC is testing the introduction of alternate/parallel papers in assessing candidates; saying “the first step was randomising the options of the objective test for the 2021 BECE.”
“Once students and school administrators realise that whatever they have received as solutions/responses to questions are not useful, their attention shifts to properly preparing candidates for the examination,” the Education Minister said.
