World Bank holds meeting for Africa Education Ministers

World Bank after choosing Ghana as the host country for this academic year’s regional Ministerial meeting for Education and Finance Ministers from Western and Central Africa ended the ceremony on Monday, June 27, 2022.
The one-day regional Ministerial meeting was opened by the Vice President, His Excellency Mahamudu Bawumia. Also in attendance was the Minister in charge of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, who gave the welcome remark.
About 22 Ministers of Education and Finance shared ideas and discussed the need to forge ahead in unity and scale up reforms and build a coalition to improve education outcomes in Western and Central African countries.
Speaking at the World Bank conference, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education emphasized the need for African leaders to unite and use education to change the vicious cycle of poverty into a virtuous cycle of prosperity.
The World Bank Regional Education Strategy was also endorsed and launched at the meeting.
Mr Ousmane Diagana, World Bank Vice President for Western and Central Africa, and Pierre Laporte, World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone were all present at the just-ended Ministerial meeting.
In a related story, Ministers of Education from African countries including Angola, Burkina Faso, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, and Zambia June met in Ghana at an AFTRA conference to discuss issues of teachers across the continent.
The 9th Teaching and Learning Conference of the Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) which commenced on 30th May 2022 at the Accra International Conference Center is expected to end on June 2, 2022.
Describing the opening ceremony of the 2022 edition of the Teaching and Learning event as colourful, Ghana’s Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum said teachers and education leaders from across Africa were present.
“I was honoured to join the Chief of Staff, Hon Akosua Frema Osei Opare, who represented H.E President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo at the opening ceremony of the 9th AFTRA), held on 30th May 2022,” Honourable Yaw stated.
