The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) following concerns raised about the content of a History textbook published by Excellence Series Publication says it has not approved the material for sale on the market.

In a statement copied to AcademicWeek, the Council said its attention has been drawn to the content of the publication dubbed “History of Ghana for Basic Schools-Learners’ Book Four” making rounds on social media.

“The said publication from Excellence Series was taken through the standard protocols established under the approval process of the Council and therefore comes to us as a surprise,” the Curriculum Council said in the press statement.

The management of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) therefore has said that the material in question authored by Excellence Series Publication is not approved content material by NaCCA.

“The Council urged the general public to continue to bring to its notice, any suspicious material in the market that may be deemed to have been emanated from National Council for Curriculum and Assessment,” it noted in the release.

The Curriculum and Assessment Council indicated it will not hesitate to sanction textbook publishers in the country who publish materials without recourse to the established protocols of the National Council for Curriculum.

“We urge members of the general public not to hesitate to contact our outfit for information on the right content and materials for use in our pre-tertiary schools

Meanwhile, the management of the Council has requested the publishers of the textbook to withdraw the material from the market until such time that issues with respect to the publication of the book have been resolved,” it said.
