KNUST cautions WASSCE graduates of 2023/2024 admission scam
The management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has cautioned the public particularly WASSCE graduates to be wary of a purported message indicating the university is offering admission.
In a disclaimer sighted by AcademicWeek.com, the Science and Technology University (KNUST) said the messages purported to indicate an offer of admission have been delivered to applicants for the 2023/2024 admissions via SMS.
“The messages are being used to demand payment of non-refundable fees of Gh$2.550.00 through a malicious link.
The University wishes to state emphatically, that it has not started processing the applications from holders of the West African Senior High School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE),” KNUST said in the disclaimer.
It continued that “Processing of applications from holders of WASSCE will begin after the release of the 2023 WASSCE results by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
The public is advised to take note and not to fall prey to such fraudulent activity/or fraudsters. We wish to remind the public that official communication of the University is via the website knust.edu.gh, and the University’s social media networks.”
A total of 447,204 prospective candidates, comprising 211,834 males and 235,370 females, will sit for the Ghana version of the International examination administered by WAEC at 834 examination centres across the country.
The total candidature represents an increase of 24,321 over last year’s candidature of 422,883. In all, final-year students from 975 second-cycle schools will participate in the WASSCE, which is being written for the second consecutive time in Ghana.
