N’Adom Darko-Asare to represent Ghana at 2023 Scripps Bee

After representing Ghana at the 2022 National Scripps Spelling Bee, N’Adom Darko-Asare, a pupil of the DPS International Ghana, Tema for the second time will compete at the 2023 Scripps National Spelling Bee.
N’Adom’s spot in the global spelling competition usually held in the United States comes after she was adjudged the 2023 academic year winner of the Ghana version of the Spelling program dubbed The Spelling Bee.
11-year-old Darko-Asare who was speller 93 in The Spelling Bee after several rounds in the national competition correctly spelt “DOUROUCOULI” as her winning word.
12-year-old Mychelle Kumah of Soul Clinic School, Accra emerged as first runner-up with Janice Afiba Nketsiah, 12, from St. Francis of Assisi Schools being the second runner-up. 104 students competed in the grand finale of the Bee.
Mychelle Kumah won a fully installed DStv HD Zapper decoder with 3 months compact viewing, Indomie products, a silver medal and GH¢150 Goil fuel vouchers.
Janice Afiba Nketsiah also won $150 spending money, a fully installed DStv HD Zapper decoder with 3 months compact viewing, Indomie products, a bronze medal and GH¢150 Goil fuel vouchers.
The fourth and fifth spellers according to the organizers of 2023 The Spelling Bee will also enjoy a round trip to Kenya. Ashesi University also presented a check of GH¢4,500 to the three final contestants.
DPS’ International’s very own N’Adom for her prize as the winner of the country’s famous spelling competition will represent Ghana at the 2023 edition of the international spelling competition dubbed Scripps National Spelling Bee.
She also took home a $500 spending money, an engraved trophy, fully installed DStv Explora decoder with 4 monthly subscription, indomie products, Gold medal and a GH¢ 500 fuel voucher sponsored by GOIL Company Limited.
At aged 10, N’Adom Darko-Asare represented Ghana at the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee but she unfortunately she was to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 2022 and the 94th edition of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
The Scripps National Spelling Bee is an annual spelling bee held in the United States. The bee is run on a not-for-profit basis by The E. W. Scripps Company and is held at a hotel or convention center in the Washington, D.C.
