How to apply as WAEC examiner for 2022 BECE & WASSCE

As the 2022 academic year draws to an end, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) soon will hire teachers to mark the 2022 BECE and WASSCE questions. In this post, we will show you how to apply as a WAEC examiner.

A staff of the Council in a discussion with AcademicWeek said his outfit last academic year contracted more than 20,000 competent examiners to mark the scripts of candidates who sat for the BECE and WASSCE for School.

Qualification & Experience

According to the management of the West African Examination Council, for a Ghanaian teacher to become a qualified WAEC Examiner or an Assistant examiner, he or she must have the following minimum qualifications;

BECE

Post-Secondary Teachers’ Certificates obtained from recognized Colleges of Education/institutions with a minimum of five (5) years post-qualification teaching experience in the relevant subjects.

Diploma and degree holders must have graduated in the subjects they wish to mark and must have taught those subjects for a minimum of three (3) years.

WASSCE, GBCE, and ABCE

Degrees in the subjects applied for, obtained from recognized universities or institutions with a minimum of three years post-qualification teaching experience in the subjects.

NB: Those applying for literature in English at WASSCE must be familiar with the set books being used currently for the subject.

According to WAEC, applicants must, in addition, be computer literate (at least, be capable of using a word processing programme). They must also have demonstrated the ability to be thorough and accurate in their work and be able to meet target dates. Their integrity must be unquestionable.

Terms of Appointment

The Council will appoint successful applicants on a temporary basis. Appointed applicants will be invited for the marking exercise and related services for periods not exceeding three weeks at a time.

Within the specific periods, the work assigned to each examiner must be completed and duly handed over to the Council. Remuneration shall be stated in appointment letters which will be issued to them for each marking session.

Mode of Application

Applicants are to visit the homepage of WAEC’s website www.waecgh.org and navigate to other services and then select Examiner’s Application Form and proceed to download the form and print it.

Completed application forms, together with copies of relevant certificates/transcripts may be submitted at any of the Council’s offices in Accra and the regional capitals.

According to WAEC, applications received after February 28 this year cannot be considered for the August/September 2022 WASSCE, GBCE/ABCE and the November/December (Nov/Dec) this year marking exercise.

The management of the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) says those who are already being engaged as WAEC examiners as well as those who have recently applied to be appointed as such need not apply again.
