Govt promise to replace textbook with laptop doubtful – NAGRAT
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) says looking at the recent happening in the country, it is not convinced the government will be able to provide laptops to Senior High School students in replacement of textbooks as promised.
Admitting Information Communication and Technology (ICT) will enhance teaching and learning, President of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu said the government will encounter challenges in its attempt to fulfil the one student, one laptop promise.

“I am for the use of IT to supplement teaching and learning activities and I know very well that if we want to break the glass ceiling that opens the door for the future, Ghana will have to take IT very seriously at every level.
If schools have connectivity and the connectivity is not sustainable, it presents a challenge, however, the way to go into the future is the use of ICT so if we can provide connectivity to schools, then we can seriously start the journey of information technology teaching and learning
“Looking at recent happenings, I foresee some challenges in the government being able to supply laptops to every student, however, we still have to keep hope alive, we don’t have a choice,” he as quoted by Citinewsroom.
His forecast comes after Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia speaking at an event in the Volta region disclosed that all second-cycle school students in the country this year will receive free laptops from the central government.
Speaking at an event in the Volta Region, Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, indicated that textbooks and other teaching and learning materials would be installed on the laptops to be used during class hours.
“We are on course to provide all Senior High School students in Ghana with laptops preloaded with textbooks on them for their studies. That is a game-changing development,” the Vice-President told stakeholders at the event.
According to him, aside from the laptops loaded with textbooks, the device will also contain WASSCE for School past questions to help students prepare adequately for the international examination this academic year.
