CoE admission was cut over teacher trainee allowance – EduWatch

Following Colleges of Education admission quota announced by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, Education think tank – Africa Education Watch has said the move is because there is no cash to sustain teacher trainees allowance.
The Director of EduWatch, Kofi Asare in a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com said the government introduced the 30% admission cut in other to sustain the College trainees’ allowance he said is a wasteful policy.
“Government cuts College of Education (CoE) admissions by 30% (6,000) because there is no cash to sustain the wasteful teacher trainee allowance policy. Welcome back to 2009-2013,” the Africa Education Watch Director stated.
Meanwhile, the Tertiary Education Commission has said the action permissible admission figures represent the total number of level 100 students to be admitted at various public Colleges of Education for the 2022/2023 academic year.
“Please be informed that the allocation cannot be varied and must strictly be adhered to. For the avoidance of doubt, payment of feeding grants and trainees allowance will be guided by these numbers,” GTEC said in a press release.
