GES announces ‘1st-term of 2023/24’ basic schools reopening date

The first term of the 2023/2024 academic year basic schools reopening date is October 3, 2023, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education (MoE) has announced.
“The reopening date for basic schools for the first term of the 2023/2024 academic year is 3rd October 2023. Please take note,” the Service said in a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com.
Asked when Junior High School graduates who sat for this year’s BECE will begin the selection of their preferred Senior High Schools for placement, GES said the school selection will start after the sensitization of the school selection.
The school selection sensitization exercise which commenced on September 11 to 23, 2023 will involve officers from GES Headquarters, CSSPS and Free SHS Secretariat who will be visiting various regions to conduct the training exercise.
In a related development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has rescheduled the first-year Senior High School and Senior High Technical School (SHS/SHTS) students reopening date to September 25, 2023.
Earlier slated for September 18, 2023, the Education Service in a letter shared with AcademicWeek said Regional Directors of Education are to communicate the new reopening date to heads of second-cycle schools in their region.
“Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to inform all Heads of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools that the reopening date for Form One students has been rescheduled to September 25, 2023
“Regional Directors of Education are requested to communicate this information to all Head of Senior High and Senior High Technical Schools to inform parents and students to take note of the new date and prepare accordingly,” it said.
