GES gives 2023 Free SHS students ‘more days’ to go to school
The Ghana Education Service (GES) after it asked 2023 Free SHS beneficiaries to go to school for their prospectus says it has given the first year second cycle school students one week period to prepare to commence academic activities.
In a communique sighted by AcademicWeek, the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) said school officially reopens for serious academic work on February 27, 2023, for all 2022 BECE graduates in the country.

“Form one students are to report to their schools on 20th February 2023 to pick up their prospectuses and complete the necessary registrations and orientations. School officially reopens for Academic work on 27th February for Form Ones.
The one-week period is for students and parents to prepare adequately for school and to ensure a smooth transition into their placed Senior High/Technical Schools,” the Ghana Education Service said in the social media post.
In a related development, GES says the criteria for Senior High/Technical School (SHS/TVET) placement disqualification is when a BECE student obtained grade 9 in English Language or Mathematics and also had a raw score of less than 200.
In a conversation with AcademicWeek, an official of the Service added that a Basic Education Certificate Examination student who did not sit for any of the core subjects or have his/her results withheld will not qualify for placement.
“The school placement disqualification criteria is based on a number of factors including the grade and raw score of a BECE student. Among others are if the candidate or student did not write any of the core subjects,” he said
Asked what prospective students who did not qualify for Senior High/Technical School (SHS/TVET) placement can do, the GES official said such students are to go back to their Junior High School to resit the national examination.
