GES gives order on resuming 1 teacher, 1 laptop distribution

The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) after it suspended the distribution of laptops to public school teachers under ‘1 teacher, 1 laptop’ has said the nationwide distribution resumes in November this year.

In a statement copied to AcademicWeek.com, the Service said “management of GES wishes to bring to the attention of all staff that the distribution of laptops under the One Teacher, One Laptop Project continues this month.”

Following the impending distribution of the government-procured laptops, It has been directed for all retired staff whose payslip shows that they were deducted for the laptop from November 2021 should be given their laptops.

“Relatives of deceased staff who have also been deducted for the laptop should be contacted and permitted to receive the laptop following proper verification of documents,” the Ghana Education Service (GES) stated in the statement.

Regional Directors of Education have been entreated to inform. Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education within their respective regions about the exercise to ensure that distribution is done smoothly and accordingly.

In a related development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) says processes are underway for each government school teacher to be provided with a dedicated email account in the next academic year for the Mate 1 (TM1) laptop.

The purpose of the dedicated email accounts he said will enable communication between Ghana Education Service (GES) and teachers in the country easily to reduce the nuisance of fake documents being splashed on social media.

“Teachers would soon be given dedicated email accounts for the purposes of communication between the Service and teachers to avoid the nuisance of fake documents being splashed on social media,” the GES official told teachers.
