Ghana is Africa’s leader in private education – GNACOPS
Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah, the National Executive Director of the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) has said the Republic of Ghana is the country currently leading in private education delivery in Africa after Uganda.
He said there are more than 22,000 registered pre-tertiary private schools in the country citing that “those that are not yet registered with the Registrar General Department will shot the number to over 30,000 pre-tertiary private schools.”

In an interview monitored by AcademicWeek, Obengfo Gyetuah indicated that the pre-tertiary private schools he said have been categorized into three which are; low fee-paying schools, mission and affiliate schools and elite schools.
According to the GNACOPS Executive Director, 70% of the 22,000 registered private schools in Ghana are low fee-paying while 25% are mission and affiliate schools and 5% are elite schools or pre-tertiary private schools.
“So Uganda was the leading country in private education in Africa but as we speak now the country that is leading private education in Africa is Ghana,” the GNACOPS official told the host of ‘Ghana Se Sen’ show Doe Lawson.
Commenting on how pre-tertiary private schools are helping Ghana’s education sector, Enoch Kwasi Gyetuah said “2018/2019 EMIS data indicates pre-tertiary private schools contribute 49% of infrastructure with 33% enrollment”
Amid the improvement, the National Ghana National Council of Private Schools Director has urged the central government to support private schools as they contribute enormously to the country’s education sector.
