GNAPS President, ‘Dr Tuurosong Damasus’ promoted to Professor
Following his academic contribution, the President of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools, Dr Tuurosong Damasus has been promoted as Associate Professor at the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies, Wa.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the National Private Schools Association said Damasus is the first-ever scholarly ranked school owner to lead the more than 40-year-old Ghana National Association of Private Schools.

“The prolific and astute academia, Professor Tuurosong Damasus reached the pinnacle of academic excellence through continuous research, publications, teaching and community service,” GNAPS said in the blog post.
Profile of Tuurosong Damasus
Damasus Tuurosong is an Associate Professor of Development Communications and Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Integrated Development Studies (FIDS) at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS).
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Development Studies from the University of Cape Coast, a Master of Philosophy and a Graduate Diploma both in Communication Studies from the University of Ghana, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English and Theatre Arts also from the University of Ghana.
Prior to being engaged at SDD-UBIDS, ProfEssor Tuurosong Damasus lectured at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Wa Polytechnic and the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
As an academic, Damasus has authored many articles in peer-reviewed journals and written books including the bestselling English books, “Grade ‘A’ English Language” and “Grade 1 English Language”.
His areas of research interest include media coverage of development initiatives, endogenous media for development, theatre for development and Social and Behaviour Change Communications.
He also worked at Orakle Advertising as Public Relations and Copy Chief, in which capacity he worked with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He was also the Regional Editor of Business Watch Magazine.
Prof. Tuurosong has consulted for various national and international NGO’s and donor agencies including the United Nations Mission in Liberia, UNICEF, Actionaid and Vibrant Village Foundation.
He is a distinguished scholar who has taught at the tertiary level for 20 years. He has researched extensively into media coverage of development issues, with many peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters to his credit.
Also, the Professor of Development Communication has vast media and industry experience, having worked at Business Watch Magazine, Sunday Herald and Orakle Communications Limited where he had exposure working with clients including Ghana Airways, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Ghana Stock Exchange and Paramount Distilleries.
He is the proprietor of TUPASO Centre of Excellence, a privately-owned school with Pre-School, Basic and Senior High divisions. His school which has educated, trained, and influenced many social lives in the Wa municipality and beyond, is one outstanding private school contributing to an increment in enrolment towards achieving a higher literacy rate in the country.
With his experience in school management, communications, and leadership, the president of GNAPS, Prof. Tuurosong is taking the hitherto moribund association through a process of revival, renewal and restoration to rebrand it into an attractive civil society organization which champions the rights of private school learners.
