MoE reveals tentative SHS reporting date for 2023 BECE graduates
An official of the Ministry in Charge of Education has announced early December this year as the Senior High School (SHS) reporting date for students who sat for the 2023 BECE to report to their placed second-cycle schools.
In a discussion with AcademicWeek, he said his outfit, the Ghana Education Service, Ghana TVET Service and the Free Senior High School Secretariat are working on a final date for the first-year Free SHS students to report to school.

“For some reason, I can not disclose the date the 2023 first-year Free Senior High School (Free SHS) students will report but they are likely to go to school before this academic year’s Christmas,” the Education Ministry staff noted.
In a related development, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the 2023/2024 academic year calendar for prospective students in government Kindergarten, primary Junior High Schools (JHSs) and Senior High Schools (SHSs).
Per the Senior High School academic calendar sighted by AcademicWeek, first-year students thus those who sat for the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will report to school from December 4, 2023, and break in mid-March 2024.
A total of 600,714 candidates, comprising 300,323 boys and 300,391 girls from 18,993 Junior High Schools participated in the 2023 BECE for School Candidates which began on Monday, August 7, 2023, to Friday, August 11, 2023.
With regard to the 2023 BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.
The 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates was held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while 15 centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates.
To ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the 2023 BECE for School and Private, A total of 2,137 supervisors, 2,000 supervisors and 21,027 invigilators were tasked to oversee the administration of the national examination.
