NaCCA engages Private Schools’ Associations over SHS curriculum

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA), as part of an effort to engage stakeholders on the draft secondary education curriculum before its final approval on August 2023 met with Private Schools’ Associations.
The associations included the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Ghana National Association of Pre-Tertiary Schools (GPOINT), and Private Education Coalition Committee (PECC).
The engagement provided the forum for the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the Private Schools’ Association to discuss and deliberate on the draft curriculum’s design, structure, and contents.
In addition, the Private Schools’ Associations shared with the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment valuable insights, perspectives, and suggestions to guide finalisation and implementation efforts.
The Private Schools’ Associations apprised of the draft curriculum’s contents and roundly lauded NaCCA’s efforts to develop a learner-centred curriculum that adequately prepares Ghanaian learners to respond to the present and future demands of the global knowledge economy.
In a related development, NaCCA July 10, 2023, engaged the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to provide an update on the progress made in the review of the Secondary Education Curriculum (SEC).
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the Curriculum Council said the meeting also afforded NaCCA officials the opportunity to gather valuable inputs and suggestions from GNAT to help with finalisation and implementation efforts.
During the engagement, the teacher union (GNAT) expressed its admiration for NaCCA’s remarkable efforts in creating a curriculum that holds the potential to revolutionize secondary education in Ghana.
Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) specifically highlighted NaCCA’s unwavering dedication, innovation and meticulousness in developing the draft SHS Curriculum. By lauding NaCCA’s accomplishments,
GNAT also emphasized the importance of collaboration and cooperation among educational institutions and stakeholders in designing a curriculum that caters to the needs of students and equips them for the future.
