NSS reacts over call to sack Ashanti Region Director of NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) following a call for the Ashanti Region Director of the Scheme, Mr Alex Opoku-Mensah to be sacked over his misconduct at Manhyia hospital says the Officer has been invited for investigation.
The call by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) for Mr Alex Opoku-Mensah to be relieved of duty comes after an audio of him raining insults on a nurse at the Manhyia hospital in the Ashanti Region went viral.
In a statement, the GRNMA said “the public service commission and government for that matter should sack the said regional director immediately because he is not fit for the Director position he holds in the Public Service”
The Nurses and Midwives Association also indicated that the Ashanti Region Director of NSS, Mr Mensah had no right to enter Manhyia Direct Hospital, verbally abuse and threaten the nurse in question who was on duty at the time.
GRNMA consequently has given the central government 72 hours momentum to sack Mr Alex Opoku-Mensah saying that all nurses and midwives at the Manhyia house hospital will go on strike which will be escalated nationwide.
But, the National Service in a statement shared with AcademicWeek.com says its attention has been drawn to the unfortunate incident at the Manhyia hospital adding that Mr Alex has been invited for further interrogations.
“The management has since the development invited the officer for preliminary investigations into the incident.
The Scheme regrets and wishes to reiterate its commitment and assurance to the public and Nursing fraternity to get the matter resolved,” the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS) stated in a press release dated November 29, 2022.
Meanwhile, The management of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has released pin codes of a total of 4,330 trained nurses to enable them to enrol to offer their one-year mandatory national service for the 2022/2023 service year.

“The period of registration spans from Monday, November 28, 2022, to Monday, December 5, 2022. Assumption of national service is on Wednesday, January 4, 2022,” the management of the National Service stated in the release.
