Teacher Education Journal launches educational newspaper
After changing its name from College of Education Weekly Journal (CoEWJ) to Teacher Education Journal (TEJ), the Education think tank has launched an educational newspaper for students and stakeholders in the education sector.
The Journal is a weekly online newspaper that seeks to educate, inform and entertain trainee teachers in various Colleges of Education and all other relevant stakeholders associated with teacher education in Ghana and beyond.
Since its inception, the Colleges of Education Weekly Journal now Teacher Education Journal (TEJ) has focused on using media advocacy as a critical tool to facilitate conversations around teacher education reforms.
In a related development, a non-governmental organization, Ghana Reads Initiative foundation as part of its effort to promote reading as a tool for education has launched its new newspaper dubbed Educational Times for students.
The 16-page education-focused newspaper is an initiative of the Ghana Reads initiative to help address the need for universal literacy for all Ghanaian children by creating access to quality teaching and learning materials through low-cost technologies.
Speaking at the launch of the newspaper, the National Director of GRI, Sandra Yeboah said his outfit seeks to create a platform where parents, students, and teachers can contribute to the decision process of the education system.
“This is the goal Ghana reads seeks to achieve with the production of our newspaper, to bring together the voices and stories of stakeholders in education regardless of rank, class, age, and location,” the Director of Ghana Reads stated.
The board chair of Ghana Reads Initiative, Tina Aforo-Yeboah, on her part, said the introduction of the Educational Times into the Ghanaians newspaper market forms part of the GRI’s interest and commitment to promoting quality education in Ghana.
“The newspaper has a wide range of articles and things that would be of interest to everybody, to every generation as far as education is concerned,” she told stakeholders at the launch of the educational newspaper.
The editor of the Ghana Reads initiative newspaper – Educational Times, Charles Neequaye also said the paper launched timely which will be published quarterly and will address relevant topics in the educational sector.
He appealed to stakeholders in the education sector, including the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Education Service, and students to contribute their quota to the newspaper by sending articles for publication.
Present at the launch of the Education newspaper was the Minister for Education, DrAdutwum, who said print news can not fade away and it will continue to make a great impact on the minds of all, the young and the old in the country.
