2022 Teacher Prize finalists to get GETFund scholarship

The management of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has announced to offer 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize finalists scholarships as part of an effort to promote quality teacher education in the country.
The administrator of the Education Fund (GETFund), Dr Richard Ampofo Boadu, made this known when the Minister of Education, Hon. Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum launched the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize at the GNAT Hall, Accra.
With 23 finalists competing for the 2022 award, this is the first time such a package is being pledged for the awardees of the prize ceremony to reward hard-working teaching and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service.
Speaking at the launch, Richard Ampofo Boadu said the overall winner of the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize Most Outstanding Teacher will be rewarded with a scholarship to study abroad for his or her Master’s or PhD, programme.
The other 22 finalists the Administrator of the Education Trust Fund (GETFund) at the ceremony monitored by AcademicWeek indicated will be honoured with local scholarships for a degree or master’s or a PhD programme.
“This decision by the Board of Trustees of the Fund is meant to place the teacher at the centre of policies and activities of GETFund”, Dr Boadu told stakeholders and teachers at the launch of the 2022 edition of the National Teacher Prize.
In a related development, the National Teaching Council (NTC) selected Tamale to host the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize, an annual event to award the most outstanding teachers in the country each academic year.
The venue for the 2022 Ghana Teacher Prize, the Registrar of the Council, Dr Christian Addai Poku in a statement copied to AcademicWeek said was proposed at a planning committee meeting held in February 2022.
The annual GTP is a three-day event which commences from the 3rd to the 5th of October annually. The first two days are used for the symposium and exhibition, and the last day, 5th October (World Teachers’ Day) is the climax.
The President of Ghana is always the Guest of Honour for the teachers’ ceremony. His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the current State man is expected to be present at this academic year’s prize event in October 2022.
