UG’s Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo elected ARUA Board Vice-Chair

The Vice-Chancellor of the Premier University of Ghana Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has been Elected African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Board Vice-Chair during the Board meeting held at the University of Lagos on 14th November 2023.
University of Ghana Vice Chancellor announced on its official social media platform X, formerly Twitter, said “On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, I was elected Vice Chair of the Board of The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) at its meeting held at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. I am excited about the opportunity to serve in this new role. “
According to the AURA’s official website, her “appointments will take effect from January 2024.” Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo will succeed Professor Sizwe Mabizela, Vice-Chancellor of Rhodes University, who has been elected as the ARUA Board’s next Chairman.
In a related development, Professor John Owusu Gyapong, Former Vice-Chancellor of University of Health and Allied Sciences has also been appointment by the ARUA board to serve as as the new Secretary-General. He will assume his position at the end of July 2024 when former University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor Professor Ernest Aryeetey retires.
Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi has joined AURO. The University’s, Director of the Office of Grants and Research, Professor Philip Antwi-Agyei reacting to the news stated that KNUST’s affiliation with AURO provides the university with a “distinctive advantage in accessing external grants specifically earmarked for ARUA members.”
