WAEC cancelled some WASSCE results over phone contacts

The West African Examinations Council cancelled some WASSCE results of candidates because they wrote their telephone numbers on their examination answer booklet for Examiners to contact them, a WAEC official has said.
The staff of the Council who disclosed this in an interview with AcademicWeek.com said such an act or practice is considered examination malpractice by the management of the non-profit-making organization (WAEC).
“Candidates who added their telephone or mobile numbers for Examiners to contact them had plans to do evil or commit a crime, The West African Examinations Council considers that as an examination malpractice,” he stated.
The WAEC official however noted candidates who solicited help from an Examiner without adding their contact number on the WASSCE answer booklet had their results released saying that is not considered examination malpractice.
Announcing the release of the 2022 WASSCE results, the management of WAEC said the subject results of 3,845 and the entire results of 518 students were cancelled because they were caught with foreign materials in the exams hall.
“The entire results of 117 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of the investigation into alleged cases of impersonation detected during the examination,” the not-for-profit organization disclosed in the press statement.
A request by the Ghana Education Service (GES) also forced the Examinations Council to block the results of 8,486 prospective students who sat for the Ghana version of the international exams online at ghana.waecdirect.org.
The not-for-profit-making organization (WAEC) explained that such candidates who sat for the Ghana version of the international exams failed to return learning support materials supplied to them and/or destroyed school property.
“Following a request from the GES, the results of 8,486 candidates who failed to return learning support materials supplied to them and/or destroyed school property cannot be accessed online at the Council’s website,” WAEC said.
A total of 422,883 prospective candidates from 977 Senior High Schools participated in the 2022 August/September WASSCE for School Candidates (Ghana-only version) at 775 examination centres across the country.
Out of the total number of candidates that registered for this academic year’s examination, 203,753 were males and 219,130 were females. 673 public and 304 private Senior High Schools registered their candidates for the WASSCE.
The Ghana version of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination which commenced on Monday, August 1 2022 with the Visual Art Project Work options ended on September 27 2022 with ICT Paper 3 Practical.
