WAEC announce 2023 BECE for school & private candidates date

The management of the West African Examinations Council says it will conduct the 2023 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for school and private students from Monday, 7th to Friday, 11th August 2023.
The date for the administration of the national examination comes after the Ghana Education Service (GES) after engagement with stakeholders postponed the 2023 BECE earlier slated for September to August this academic year.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the management of the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) said it will administer the Basic Education Certificate Examination for both School and Private candidates at the same time.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private Candidates, 2023 will be administered from Monday, August 7, 2023, to Friday, August 11, 2023,” the West African Examinations Council said in the post.
The not for money making organization added that “the Examinations Council will hold briefing sessions for all stakeholders who will be involved in the registration of candidates from Tuesday, March 21 to Friday, March 24, 2023.”
The 2023 BECE for School and Private Candidates registration portal for Junior High School students WAEC said will be opened from open from Monday March 27, 2023 to Friday, April 28 2023 after the stakeholder’s briefing.
“As indicated earlier, it is important for all candidates eligible to sit for the Basic Education Certificate Examination to ensure that their bio-data is captured accurately and that they are registered for the correct subjects,” it noted.
The Examinations Council has entreated heads of public and private Junior High Schools (JHS) to ensure that they register candidates for the correct Ghanaian Language and Basic Design Technology options.
“The revised rules will also apply to the BECE as well. Once again, Heads of Schools are being cautioned against the registration of unqualified candidates which could lead to the nullification of a candidate’s results,” WAEC added.
“WAEC wishes to solicit the support of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth registration of eligible candidates for the two examinations, as this is a key factor in the successful conduct of the exams and the timely release of results,” it said.
