Ghana to write WASSCE 2023 without 4 WAEC member countries

The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says Ghana will for the second time not write WASSCE for School Candidates with other member countries of the Council including Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
WAEC last year amid some delayed changes in the 20222 academic year calendar for government Senior High Schools in the country conducted the 2022 edition of the WASSCE for School for Ghanaian candidates separately.
Repeating the same format this year, In a statement shared with AcademicWeek, said the Ghana version of the international examination will be administered from Monday, July 31, 2023, to Tuesday, September 26, 2023
“The examination, which will once again be a Ghana-only version of the WASSCE will be conducted from Monday, 31st July to Tuesday, 26th September 2023,” the management of the West African Examinations Council said.
The 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School timetable, the Council said will be made available to all public and private Senior High/Technical Schools in the country at the appropriate time.
“Candidates are advised to contact their schools or visit the WAEC website for an accurate timetable. Candidates should refrain from downloading timetables from unverifiable websites,” the not-for-profit institution noted.
WAEC also said the 2023 WASSCE for School registration has begun for Senior High/Technical School students who wish to participate in this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the management of the Examinations Council said the WASSCE for School registration portal opened on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, will be closed on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.
The West African Senior School Certificate Examination is administered to school candidates in the third year of Senior High School candidates. The examination is for both selections to tertiary institutions and for certification.
Last year, a total of 422,883 candidates representing 203,753 males and 219,130 from 977 Senior High Schools ( 673 public and 304 private) in the country sat for the 2022 WASSCE for School at 755 examination centres nationwide.
“60 subjects, comprising four (4) core and fifty-six (56) electives were made available to prospective candidates to choose from. The WASSCE which commenced on August 1, 2022, ended on September 27, 2022, with ICT.
