The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it will open BECE school and private registration from Monday, March 27, 2023, to Friday, April 28 2023 for eligible final-year Junior High School (JHS) students to register.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the African Examinations Council (WAEC) said it will again administer the 2023 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for both School and Private candidates at the same time.
“The Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private Candidates, 2023 will be administered from Monday, August 7, 2023, to Friday, August 11, 2023,” the not-for-money organization (WAEC) said in the post.
Ahead of the conduct of the national examination, the management of the Council said it will hold briefing sessions for all stakeholders who will be involved in the registration of candidates from Tuesday, 21st to Friday, 24th March 2023.
In a related development, WAEC as part of measures to make the conduct of WASSCE and BECE for School and Private Candidates malpractice and leakage free has revised the rules and regulations for the examinations.
WAEC in a statement sighted by AcademicWeek said the rules and regulations for dealing with cases of irregularity in the examinations have been revised to make the conduct of the international examination more transparent.
Available on its website, WAEC says the revision includes new rules on the destruction of exhibits, posting live questions on the internet, misconduct of exams officials and refusal to grant timely access to the school premises.
“The revised rules are available on the Council’s website and Heads of school are urged to sensitise their candidates on them. The Council will also be embarking on wide sensitisation on these rules to create the needed awareness,” it said.
It added, “WAEC wishes to solicit the support of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth registration of eligible candidates for the two examinations, as this is a key factor in the successful conduct of the exams and the timely release of results.”
