WAEC to report all WASSCE malpractice cases to exams committee

Ahead of the release of the results of the candidates who sat for this year’s WASSCE for School, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) will submit all WASSCE malpractice cases to the Ghana Examinations Committee (EC).

An official of WAEC who spoke to AcademicWeek.com on condition of anonymity said all the examination malpractice cases recorded during the WASSCE and those detected in the script marking would be reported to the Committee.

This he said is because some candidates who sat for the just-ended 2022 WASSCE were caught with foreign materials and mobile phones, an act the West African Examinations Council has said is the worst form of examination fraud.

“Teachers involved in malpractice and misconduct during the national examination will also be reported to the Ghana Education Service for administrative sanctions,” the staff of the Exams Council told AcademicWeek’s Editorial Staff.

The Committee according to the WAEC official is made of representatives from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and other relevant stakeholders.

“The Ghana Examinations Committee is usually chaired by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), he will approve for the necessary sanctions to be taken against prospective candidates found culpable,” he said.

“So WAEC has compiled all the malpractice cases recorded during the conduct of the 2022 WASSCE and those detected during the marking of the WASSCE scripts to be submitted to the Committee” the WAEC staff noted.

A total of 422,883 candidates representing 203,753 males and 219,130 females from 977 Senior High Schools participated in the 2022 edition of the Ghana version of the international examination (WASSCE for School).

A total of seven hundred and seventy-five (775) centres were used for the 2022 WASSCE. Sixty (60) subjects, comprising four (4) core and fifty-six (56) electives were made available to prospective candidates to choose from.

 The 2022 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) which commenced on Monday, August 1, 2022, with the Visual Art Project Work options ended on September 27, 2022, with ICT Paper 3 Practical.
