Ashanti Region NSS Director to lose 2 months’ pay over insult

After suspending the Ashanti Region NSS Director, Mr Alex Opoku-Mensah over his misconduct at the Manhyia government hospital on November 27, 2022, the National Service Scheme has said he will forfeit two months’ pay.
“Mr Alex Opoku-Mensah, Ashanti Regional Director of the NSS, has been suspended for two months without pay. After his suspension, he is expected to work under supervision at the NSS head office,” a source familiar with the story said.
His suspension, the source said is part of recommendations from the committee of enquiry which was tasked to investigate the incident between the former regional NSS director and a nurse at the Manhyia hospital last year.
In a statement shared with AcademicWeek.com, the management of the NSS said Mr Alex Opoku within seven days is to issue an official apology to the National Service Scheme for bringing the name of the Scheme into disrepute.
Mr Alex Mensah’s recent punishment comes after the Ghana National Service Scheme (NSS) invited him for a preliminary investigation into the matter the NSS management has described as an unfortunate incident.
“The management of the National Service Scheme has suspended the Ashanti Regional Director, Alex Opoku-Mensah with immediate effect,” a statement signed by a spokesman for the Scheme and copied to AcademicWeek said.
The NSS press release dated December 1, 2022, further disclosed that “the announcement of the suspension was made on November 30, 2022, at an emergency meeting the management of the Scheme held with Mr Alex Opoku Mensah.”
The decision according to the management of the National Service Service (NSS) is to allow further investigation into the alleged verbal assault on a nurse on duty at the Manhyia government hospital in Kumasi.
“A committee comprising representatives from the NSS, the Public Services Commission, and the Ministry of Education, has been set up to investigate the matter and to submit its report to the NSS Management within one month,” it said.
