Dr. Stephen Appiah Takyi: KNUST Lecturer elected Vice President of Ghana Institute of Planning
Dr. Stephen Appiah Takyi, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Planning at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been elected as the new vice president of the Ghana Institute of Planning (GIP). He was chosen among other GIP National Executives at the Institute’s 52nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Koforidua Technical University (KTU).
The other executives who were elected at the programme to stir its affairs of the institute the next two years. include; Pln. Percy Anaab Bukari (FGIP) for President, Pln. Kekeli Kofi Amedzro, Pln for second vice Presidents, Kenneth Yaoh Ketor for Honorary Secretary, Pln. Wilfred Ebo Sam-Awortwe (Assistant Secretary), Pln Anthony Kanyi Foli-Adade (Treasure) and Pln. Jalil Mahama (PRO). Pln. Dr. Dennis Puorideme was co-opted to serve as the Editor of the journal of the Institute.

The Ghana Institute of Planning formerly Ghana Institute of Planners is GIP is the professional body for planners and records at the Office of Registrar of Companies (ORC), indicate that it was the first professional body registered in Ghana under the Professional Bodies Registration Decree, 1973 (NRCD 143).
Profile of Dr. Stephen Appiah Takyi
Dr. Stephen Appiah Takyi is a Policy and Planning instructor at KNUST’s Department of Planning. His academic and research interests include environmental policy, urban policy, environmental planning, environmental impact assessment, and social policy planning.
He holds a Doctorate in Natural Resource and Environmental Studies from the University of Northern British Columbia, a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario and a Bachelor of Science in Planning from The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The work of Proud Akatakyire (Opoku Ware School former Student) on “Comparative Study of Capital City Elements: The Case of Ghana and Nigeria” was awarded second best paper in the 2017 African Geographical Review. In 2019, he was named the top candidate by the Ghana Institute of Planners.
