Ex-Education Minister ranked 6th on list of 100 Inspiring Individuals in Africa
Former Minister for Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has been selected by the African Regional Journal as one of the 100 most Inspiring Individuals in Africa. The current Minister in Charge of Energy is number 6 on the list.
The African Regional Awards according to the African Regional Journal under the auspices of Tarj Events is “primarily to celebrate inspiring individuals in Africa and motivate the collective African citizenry to follow in their steps.”

Individuals according to Tarj Events were hand-picked throughout the region of Africa by the African Regional Journal Team, In their research, the Team relied primarily, but not exclusively, on vetted information gathered from authentic sources, and then authenticated by information obtained from print, radio, television, and social media sources”
“The selected candidates were chosen based on their impressive and documented accomplishments in their respective professional sectors. These sectors include business, governance, social impact, and creative inventiveness. Indeed, painstaking efforts have gone into the selection of deserving candidates for this laudable award recognition,” the Team said.
Profile of Mathew Prempeh
He was appointed by President Nana Akufo-Addo on 10 January 2017 to serve as Minister for Education in Ghana. He served in that role for 4 years until 6 January 2021 when the tenure of the president and his ministers ended.
In May 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo named Prempeh as one of the nineteen ministers who would form his cabinet. The names of the 19 ministers were submitted to the Parliament of Ghana and announced by the former Speaker of the House, Mike Ocquaye. As a Cabinet minister, Prempeh was part of the inner circle of the president and was to aid in key decision-making activities in the country.
Prempeh also contributed to the educational sector of Ghana as a Minister of Education, such as improving the infrastructure, promoting vocational and technical education (TVET), and leading the government’s flagship programme ”FREE SHS”.
