Ex-GES DG Prof Kwasi Opoku breaks silence on his dismissal

Following the termination of his appointment as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) by President Akufo-Addo, Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa has bid his colleagues at the Education Service farewell.
In a goodbye message sighted by AcademicWeek, the KNUST Professor said “I wish to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for your dedication and the extremely good work relationship that existed between us.
Mr Kwasi Opoku Amankwa continued that “I highly appreciate your unfathomable love for me. We worked as a team and together we’ve changed the face of not only pretertiary education but also Ghana Education Service (GES)
You supported me in many ways to enhance my resumé to bring it to a distinguishing first-class, world-class CV. And I am highly grateful to you all.”
The former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service has been replaced with Dr Eric Nkansa who served as Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry of Education. His appointment takes effect on October 19, 2022.
A letter dated October 19, 2022, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante to Dr Nkansah said the appointment was under Section 19 (1), (2) (a) and (b) of the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020 (Act 1049).
“I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you to act as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES),” the letter from the Office of the President copied to AcademicWeek stated.
The 41-year-old banker and lecturer of the Kumasi Technical University joined the Ministry of Education (MoE) in April 2021 on secondment from the Kumasi Technical University, where he served as a Senior Lecturer for about 8 years.
He holds a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Zululand, South Africa, a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from KNUST Business School, Ghana, and B. A (Hons) Economics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
He has published widely in peer-reviewed academic journals. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Ghana. He is married and blessed with three lovely boys. Dr Nkansah is passionate about educating and developing people.
