Profile of 41-yr old new GES Director-General Dr Eric Nkansah

President Akufo-Addo after terminating the secondment contract of the ex-Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Kwasi Opoku Amankwa has appointed Eric Nkansah to the role. In this post, we will take a look at Eric’s profile.

Before he was appointed the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr Eric Nkansah was the Technical Advisor/Director in charge of Tertiary Education at the Ministry in charge of Education (MoE).

A letter dated October 19, 2022, signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Bediatuo Asante to Dr Nkansah said his appointment was under Section 19 (1), (2) (a) and (b) of the Pre-Tertiary Education Act, 2020 (Act 1049).

“I am pleased to inform you that the President has appointed you to act as the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES),” the letter from the Office of the Presidency and copied to AcademicWeek.com stated.

The letter continued that “your appointment is effective October 19, 2022. I take this opportunity to congratulate you formally on your appointment. Kindly indicate your acceptance or otherwise of this appointment within 14 days.”

41-year-old Nkansah joined the Ministry of Education (MoE) in April 2021 on secondment from the Kumasi Technical University (KTU), where I served as Senior Lecturer at the Department of Banking Technology and Finance,

Since he joined Kumasi Technical University in September 2012 (then Kumasi Polytechnic), I have contributed heavily to teaching, research, programme development and community service to the development of the university.

Eric also worked as the Executive Director of Career Spring Institute, a private consulting firm licensed to provide training for members and potential members of local and international professional programmes and specialised training for small, medium, and large corporations.

Groomed through the basic up to advanced banking operations, Nkansah was the sales manager of the Krofrom Branch of Barclays Bank of Ghana (now Absa) for over six years with the then Barclays Bank of Ghana.

While working for Barclays Bank of Ghana, the newly appointed Director-General of the Ghana Education Service was also lecturing at the Banking and Finance Department of Garden City University College on a part-time basis.

Subsequently, he became a part-time Lecturer at the KNUST Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) and Business School. Mr Eric has also facilitated a good number of training programmes in building the capacity of bankers in Ghana.

He holds a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Zululand, South Africa, a Master of Business Administration (Finance) from KNUST Business School, Ghana, and B. A (Hons) Economics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

He has published widely in peer-reviewed academic journals. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (ACIB), Ghana.
