SHS students to receive free electronic tablets 2023 – Dr Bawumia

After implementing free Wifi in all public Senior High Schools, the Vice-President of the Republic, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia says all second-cycle school students this year will receive free electronic tablets from the government.
Speaking at the 74th Annual New Year and School Conference at Great Hall and ISSER Conference Centre, Dr Bawumia said he had been informed the government is on course to provide the tablets to all Free Senior High School students.
“We are on course to provide all Senior High School students in Ghana with tablets preloaded which are loaded with textbooks on them for their studies. That is a game-changing development,” the Vice-President said at the conference.
According to him, aside from the electronic tablets loaded with textbooks, the device will also contain WASSCE for School past questions to help students prepare adequately for the international examination this academic year.
In a related development, the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekufful has said the government is considering the installation of free wifi in all Junior High Schools to enhance ICT, research and knowledge acquisition.
The Ablekuma West Member of Parliament in a social media post sighted by AcademicWeek.com said the installation of free wifi in all Junior High Schools is a replica of the over 90% installed in public Senior High Schools (SHSs).
“The challenge now is how to replicate that in the Junior High Schools (JHSs) as the Education Ministry seeks to introduce blended learning (a mixture of virtual learning and face-to-face),” the Communications Minister said.
The politician further suggested that for the project to be rolled out in various Junior High Schools, the Akufo-Addo-led government must to put in place the infrastructure to support the launch of the wifi at the basic school level.
