Dr Adutwum to speak at 74th New Year School and Conference
Minister in charge of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has been shortlisted as a speaker at the 74th Annual New Year School and Conference slated for January 16, to Thursday, January 19, 2023, at Great Hall and ISSER Conference Centre.
On the theme: Positioning the African Market for Sustainable Economic Development through AFCTA (African Continental Free Trade Area), the four-day 74th New Year conference will focus on economic challenges.

The 74th Conference is being organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education, the College of Education, and the University of Ghana (UG) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, and Finance, among others.
This year’s Annual New Year School and Conference was opened on Monday, January 16, 2023, at the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra with the Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia being the special guest to the event.
According to a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, Mary Chinery-Hesse, the Chancellor of the University of Ghana (UG) will be the chairperson for the conference with Vice-Chancellor of UG, Prof Nana Aba Appiah Amfo as the host.
Other invited speakers for the event are Minister for Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey and Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekufful.
The General Secretary of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA), Mr Wamkele Keabetswe Mene is the keynote speaker for the ongoing 74th New Year School and Conference sponsored by the University of Ghana, Legon.
Last academic year’s School and Conference was under the theme, “COVID-19 and Socioeconomic Dynamics in Ghana” and organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) under the College of Education, University of Ghana.
Mrs Mary Chinery-Hesse giving introductory remarks at the 73rd Annual New Year School and Conference said since the inception of the New Year School and Conference in 1948, it has provided a unique platform for national and local agencies, academia and other stakeholders to deliberate on Ghana’s strategic growth and development issues.
“I salute the University of Ghana Community, particularly the School of Continuing and Distance Education for sustaining the New Year School and Conference concept for 73 consecutive years,” the Chancellor of UG said.
On the part of Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, she said ‘universities in Ghana have an important role to play in spurring economic growth and resilience through innovation, knowledge transfer, and community engagement.
“As the premier University in Ghana, it is our anticipation that this year’s New Year School and Conference will champion the identification of models that would boost economic growth and development, taking cognisance of the current and future pandemics,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
