GES releases 2023 SHSs and basic schools academic calendar

The Ghana Education Service after the Ministry of Education assured students of the immediate release of the Senior High and basic schools academic calendar for the 2023 academic year will be released shortly has released the calendar.

In a statement shared with AcademicWeek, the management of the Service said all regional directors in the country to ensure that heads of schools for Basic and Second Cycle Schools in their respective regions comply accordingly.

“Regional Directors are directed to ensure that Heads of Schools for Basic and Second Cycle Schools in their respective regions take note of the provisions in the attached calendar and comply accordingly to facilitate a smooth running of the academic year,” It said.

The management of GES in the press statement said double-track Senior High School students in form 3 who opened schools on January 10, 2023, will break for academic activities between April 6 -16, 2023 and return on April 17, 2023.

The prospective students will then go on another break between June 2-8, 2023. They will resume on June 9, 2023, to continue with academic work in schools up to September 15, 2023, to end the academic year for the first term.

For government Junior High Schools, the Ghana Education Service (GES) under the auspices of the Ministry of Education said final-year Junior High School students will go on vacation between March 25-April 2, 2023.

“They will resume on April 3, 2023, for the second term. They will then go on vacation again between June 16-26, 2023. They will return to school on June 27, 2023, for the third term,” the management said in the academic calendar release.

This academic year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates the Ghana Education Service (GES) said will be administered by the West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) in September 2023.
