GFA & MoE gives date to launch ‘FIFA Football for Schools project’

With the support of the Ministry of Education, the Ghana Football Association in collaboration with FIFA has scheduled August 10, 2023, to August 12, 2023, to launch the FIFA Football for Schools project in some schools across the country.
In a blog post sighted by AcademicWeek, the Football Association said “As part of the project, there will be the training of selected Physical Education (PE) Teachers from all the regions in Ghana by FIFA Specialists as trainee trainers.
“The trained teachers will then train other PE Teachers in their respective regions. This project forms part of the GFA’s quest to develop all aspects of the game and to ensure that members are duly supported by FIFA to boost capacity.
This follows the approval of the Ghana Football Association’s application for the FIFA Football for Schools Programme for implementation in accordance with the necessary FIFA guidelines,” GFA stated in the blog post on its website.
The Director of FIFA Football for Schools, Fatimata Sidibe said her outfit after a thorough review of the documentation provided by the Ghana Football Association decided to approve the application for implementation of the programme in Ghana.
The FIFA Football for Schools administration she said will work with GFA to coordinate the release of the Football for Schools mobile app in Ghana, as well as to provide appropriate training and capacity-building support for users (selected public schools in Ghana).
President of the Association, Kurt Okraku reacting to the approval of the project said the Ghana Football Association is working with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education on this programme to benefit students between the ages of 10 – 14 years.
“The Association will also ensure that there is gender parity as all schools selected are mixed schools. This programme will further support GFA’s project to introduce football to young girls as early as possible to increase girls’ participation in football,” he noted.
The FIFA Football for Schools project after its two-day launch on August 2023 will provide training to Physical Education (PE) teachers as well as provide footballs to almost 3,000 government schools across the country.
“The GFA is extremely happy that its application has received approval from FIFA. This programme will benefit the Schools and Colleges as a member of the Association and many PE Teachers and students between ages 10 to 14.
The GFA will continue to work assiduously with its partners, FIFA, the Education Ministry and the Ministry of Youth and Sports to ensure the success of this excellent programme” President of GFA, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku said.
