GTEC ranks Enchi College of Education best 2022/23 college

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) out of the 46 teacher training institution in the country has ranked Enchi College of Education, a teacher education college in Enchi, Western Region as the best College of Education.
Enchi College’s achievement comes after it successfully implemented the B. Ed programme introduced in 2019 with approval from the National Accreditation Board now Ghana Tertiary Education Commission in July 2018.
Using 24 indicators in the various components of the programme, the Tertiary Education Commission 2022 began an exercise with the purpose to examine how best the Colleges were implementing the new teacher education programmes.
Out of the 46 government-accredited Colleges of Education across the country, Enchi College of Education emerged as the overall best-performing college, securing a high score in 20 out of the 24 indicators representing 83.3%.
Speaking at a ceremony to celebrate the enormous achievement, the Princiap of Enchi College of Education, Mr Philip Ntaah said the Enchi College has always distinguished itself anytime a new revision in teacher education was made.
In his closing remarks, Mr Philip Ntaah stated that the big dream for Enchi College of Education is to make the 100 mark and attain their enviable position as the best government or public teacher training college in the country
He also used the occasion to list a few challenges that affected their work in the College, these include inadequate science equipment in the science laboratories, little space for practical musical lessons and inadequate Physical Education equipment, and lack of funding for workshops.
Enchi College of Education offers the new Bachelor of Education programmes and they include the B.Ed Early Grade Education, B.Ed Upper Primary Education and B.Ed JHS Education (with specialisms in English, French, RME, Special needs, Geography, Social Studies, and History).
The Western Region-based Enchi College of Education was established in 1965 as a male institution and became co-educational a decade later with the admission of thirty-five women in 1975. It relocated to its present site in 1978.
Enchi College started with a 4-year post middle Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ programme. The college is located at the Aowin Municipality in the Western-North Region of the Republic of Ghana.
It is currently running distance programmes with the University of Cape Coast, University of Winneba and Jackson College of Education alongside its regular programmes.
The college has been able to produce over 7000 teachers, most of whom are currently occupying very enviable positions in the country.
