KNUST’s Magdalene Mawugbe is 2024 Rhodes Scholar for West Africa

Magdalene Mawugbe, a 2022 graduate of the Kumasi-based Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, has been named the 2024 Rhodes Scholar for West Africa. She was the highest ranking of the three finalists chosen for the Rhodes Scholarship from a pool of 3,214 applications according to the Rhodes National Secretary.
Magdalene is a BSc. Disability and Rehabilitation Studies graduate of KNUST with a research interest in mental health among the Deaf population. She recently co-authored a publication focused on the stigma Deaf people with mental health disorders face.

She was a sign language interpreter for the public lecture on ‘The Student At The Heart Of University Education’ delivered by the Chancellor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Prof. Melissa Nobles, 13th July 2023 at the Great Hall KNUST.
