MoE reveals 1st-year SHS students (Day, Boarder) prospectus cost
As part of an effort to lessen the burden of parents whose wards sat for this year’s BECE, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has reduced first-year Senior High School prospectus costs to ensure all 2023 BECE graduates go to school.
A member of the committee tasked to work on the 2023 Free SHS prospectus in a discussion with AcademicWeek said the prospectus for Day students will be less than GH¢500.00 and that of boarder students about GH¢1000.00

He further indicated that said all items the Ministry of Education (MoE) and its relevant agencies including the Ghana Education Service (GES) have reviewed the 2022 academic year prospectus and done away with all unnecessary items.
Aside from some cleaning detergents like dettol, washing powder, soap, scrubbing brush, broom, mop etc., unnecessary items including cement, plastic chairs, paint, and A4 sheets among others, he said will not be on the prospectus.
“We have engaged the head of schools, Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), parents, students, teachers, house mistress and house masters on the prospectus to be issued to students,” the official noted.
The 2023 edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School and Private Candidates was administered from Monday, August 7, 2023, through Friday, August 11, 2023, across the country.
With regard to the BECE for Private Candidates, a total entry figure of 1,743 candidates was recorded. This is made up of 889 males and 854 females. This year’s figure is 5.4% higher than the entry figure of 1,132 for 2022.
The 2023 BECE for School Candidates was held at 2,137 examination centres across the country, while fifteen (15) centres mainly in the regional capitals were used for the BECE for Private candidates on Monday, August 7, 2023.
