NTC adds ‘Best CoE tutor’ category to 2023 Teacher Prize

The National Teaching Council (NTC) next academic year will award the most outstanding College of Education (CoE) tutor in the 2023 edition of the Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP), the management of the NTC disclosed at a workshop.
The aim of the 3-day workshop was to develop the tools for the selection of applicants for the new category of award, the Most Outstanding College of Education (CoE) Tutor introduced by the National Teaching Council (NTC).
Speaking at the event, a member of the NTC Governing Board said “the Council has decided to extend it to Tutors of Colleges of Education in the 2023 edition and possibly, scale it up to cover the lecturers at the Universities in the future.”
The NTC official indicated that the prize attached to the new category will be a 4×4 pick-up. “This category will initially be sponsored by Transforming Teaching, Education & Learning, T-TEL,” Dr Benedict Osei-Owusu stated.
A seven-member committee Chaired by Professor Christine Adu-Yeboah of the Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast was also formed at the workshop held in Kumasi from Thursday, November 24 to Saturday, November 26
The other members of the GTP committee are the National Coordinator for Ghana Teacher Prize, a rep each from PRINCOF, CETAG and Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, as well as two astute educationists.
The seven-member committee led by Professor Christine Adu-Yeboah is tasked to develop the following tools;
1. The selection criteria for the Most Outstanding College of Education Tutor
2. Application form for the Most Outstanding College of Education Tutor
2. GTP screening guidelines for the Most Outstanding College of Education Tutor
3. Interview selection criteria for the Most Outstanding College of Education Tutor
4. Scoresheet for the Most Outstanding College of Education Tutor
The National Teaching Council (NTC) after ending the 2022 edition of the Teacher Prize is set to open the 2023 GTP portal for applications in January 2023 for teachers and education workers to apply for the following categories.
The Ghana Teacher Prize (GTP) aims to honour outstanding teachers for their exemplary performance and ground-breaking work that has affected and transformed the lives of students under their care, the school and the community.
