According to the National Conference of Principals of the Colleges, interested applicants with SSCE certificates who had obtained A-D in three core subjects can also apply to be considered for the 2023/2024 teacher training admission.
Meanwhile, the management of the National Teaching Council (NTC) has said applicants seeking to pursue various teacher education programmes will sit a College of Education examination before being given admission to study.
The entrance examination dubbed Ghana Basic Education Skills Examination Test (GBEST) and slated for August this year the Registrar of the Council, Dr Christian Addai Poku has said will access students in numeracy and literacy.
“The GBEST will, thus, be used as the entry assessment for the trainee teachers and after completion, the students will be made to write a level and subject-based licensure examination to be qualified as professional teachers,” he stated.
Dr Addai told stakeholders the new entrance exams form part of reforms being proposed by his outfit to harmonise teacher education admissions in the country and also improve teacher education as part of the educational reforms.
Earlier slated to be administered in August 2022, a staff of the National Teaching Council (NTC) has told AcademicWeek his outfit at the appropriate time will communicate a new date for the conduct of the College entrance examination.
