“Some of the literacy scripts I have been reviewing are very nauseating. I just can’t imagine how our classrooms would be if such calibre who cannot string a sentence together in English found their way in there without the licensure,” he said.
He added that “the thoughts of they having graduated from the university even gives me catarrh. How did they graduate without basic literacy? The National Teaching Council is doing a good job by sieving the best for our schools.”
In a related development, the Teaching Council says tertiary graduates who sat for the Ghana teacher licensure examination (GTLE) but failed and are not satisfied with their results can pay not more than GH₵600 for script remark.
Registrar of the NTC, Christian Addai Poku said graduates who fail the teacher licensure examination can apply for the script remarking, Addai Poku said “Such candidates must write a letter to NTC requesting a script review.”
According to the Registrar, the fixed GH₵600 Ghana teacher licensure examination (GTLE) script remarking fee will be paid by the interested candidates to the National Teaching Council’s (NTC) account at designated banks.
Asked why the Council has refused to publish results statistics on the national examination, Mr Poku said his outfit’s decision not to publish figures of passed or failed candidates are to avoid misinterpretation of the results.
“The media always report the failure of graduate teachers who sat for the licensure examination, they don’t comment on the positive side, so this year NTC will not publish the GTLE results statistics,” he said in an interview with TTAG.
